Low Emission Technologies

Low Emission Technologies is a term used to generally describe a portfolio of technologies designed to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from power generation, heavy industry and transportation.  They include Integrated Gasification Combined Cycle (IGCC)Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS), solar, wind, geothermal, nuclear and electric or hybrid vehicles.

According to the International Energy Agency's World Energy Outlook 2009, even with the growth in renewables, fossil fuels will account for almost 80 percent of the increased global demand for energy between 2007 and 2030.  Demand for coal alone will grow by 53 percent in that time.

The IEA says that to address this increased demand, an energy technology revolution is needed, involving greater energy efficiency, increased renewable energies and nuclear power, and the near-decarbonisation of fossil fuel-based power generation.

IGCC and CCS are two of the most important low emission technologies available to achieve deep cuts in greenhouse gas emissions from coal-fired power stations.

ZeroGen is one of the world leaders in the accelerated deployment of low emission technology.
